Sources

Practice names, ratings and review counts come from Google Maps listings. For each practice we then opened its Google Business Profile (October 2026) and recorded the address, phone number, website, opening hours, accessibility, amenity and payment attributes it lists. Treatments and registration mentions come from the practice's own website, and each is linked to the page where we found it.

Which practices are included

We include open dental practices whose address is in Hampshire (including Southampton and Portsmouth). We exclude permanently closed listings, businesses that are not dental, listings without a verifiable address, and practices whose Google profile publishes no opening hours. Individual practitioners listed at the same address and phone number as a practice are shown under that practice rather than as separate clinics.

How areas are assigned

Each practice is assigned to a local-authority district from its own coordinates, not from which search returned it. Aldershot and Farnborough are one area (Rushmoor).

The weighted Google score

Ranking uses a Bayesian-weighted average of the Google rating. A practice with few reviews is pulled toward the overall average, so a 5.0 from three reviews does not outrank a 4.8 from hundreds. It measures how much review evidence supports a rating. It is not a measure of clinical quality, and we do not recommend or endorse any practice.

When a treatment page exists

A "10 rated dentists providing a treatment" page is created only when at least 5 practices in the area state the treatment on their own website and they make up less than 90% of the area's practices. Otherwise the area page already says everything useful. We do not create such pages for NHS, private or emergency care: we cannot verify live NHS availability or out-of-hours cover.

What we do not do

We do not show prices, testimonials or "verified" badges. We do not accept payment for listings or rankings. Registration mentions (for example the General Dental Council) are shown as stated by the practice and are not verified by us.

Corrections

Use the correction link on any profile. Practices can claim a listing to update details; this does not change ranking.
